It doesn't really change anything if you're using SHA512 instead of SHA256. It's the same hashing algorithm. The hash is just longer but doesn't mean it's any harder to crack.

Anyways, you should switch the hashing functions to correspond crypt() function in PHP. It would be great to have more algorithms than just these.
