Summary0005654: MTA:SA 1.0.4 doesn't sync the FPS Limit
Description

MTA:SA doesn't sync Limit the FPS for all players, some players has more FPS than the limited, others has less than the limited. Example:

Additional Information

Well, I put the Severity in 'Major' because FPS sync make difference in all mods, an example in race, if my MTA:SA understand the FPS limit is 42 and my friend's MTA:SA understand it is 46 his GTA:SA will run faster making he get better time than me. I used Fraps to show my FPS, I think you guys can trust in it, in GTA:SA Single Player it shows the real FPS without buggs

MTA:SA 1.0.4 r2089
MTA:SA resource r655
GTA:SA 1.0 European
Windows 7 Ultimate x86 RTM

The FPS limiting is handled by GTA, and I think it is influenced by the refresh rate of the monitor.

I'm playing in 800x600 + Widescreen + Refresh Rate of 60Hz (the monitor is a Samsung SyncMaster B1930N 18,5" 1360x768)

It's a known fact that the 'actual FPS limit' may differ from the nominal FPS rate set by the server.

However, the actual FPS limit is applied equally among all players on the same server, AFAIK.

Yes, some players have more than the limited by the server, others have less. It's unfair :/

So, I talked with a friend which has a better monitor and PC than me:

  • I'm playing in 800x600 + Widescreen + Refresh Rate of 60Hz (the monitor is a Samsung SyncMaster B1930N 18,5" 1360x768), I have 43 FPS
  • He's playing in 1680x1050 + Widescreen + Refresh Rate of 75Hz (the monitor is a Asus VW225N 22" 1680x1050), he has 44 FPS.
The Maximum FPS limited by the server is 45

Yes, there is an other bug too. Some clients miss the Maximum FPS Limit and run the game as Maximum FPS Limit turned off, but there is also a program which troll MTA making it run with Maximum FPS Limit turned off, it's called SAPT (San Andreas Performance Tool [ http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=288759 ])

it's not a sync problem

some players has the newest PCs and they still must play with FPS, limited by the server

some players has older PCs and that is a problem of them, they can play with FPS which provide their hardware

You can have the best PC of the world, start GTA San Andreas single player and active FPS Limit, you'll have 25 FPS

Honestly, 1-2 fps do not make a difference, i dont see a reason to care about those. And setting the fps limit to high values doesnt mean you'll get as high fps, it depends on your machine capabilities.

They arent missing the limit, the limit is just not that accurate, but it does it's job. If somebody doesnt have the limit they obviously aint playing a fair game. MTA is just changing GTA's internal limit
